noaha and his family saved in the ark preserved for a second chance

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
Genesis 6:8 (NKJV)

Second chances reveal the heart of God. In the darkest of times, when evil filled the earth and mankind had turned away from its Creator, God’s mercy still reached out. The story of Noah is not only a story of judgment — it is one of grace, love, and redemption.

Through Noah’s obedience, humanity was granted a second chance to live. Yet even this new beginning pointed forward to an even greater second chance — the salvation offered through Jesus Christ, the Second Adam. In this post, we will see how God’s heart for humanity has always been to redeem, restore, and reconcile us to Himself.

God’s Grief and Mercy

Genesis 6 paints a sobering picture:

“Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
So the LORD said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth… for I am sorry that I have made them.’”

Genesis 6:5-7

It is crucial to see that God was grieved, not angry. His heart broke over the corruption of His creation. Though His holiness required judgment, His mercy provided a way of hope. He never delights in destruction; He longs for redemption.

But Noah Found Grace

Into this darkness comes one man:

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”
Genesis 6:8

Noah was a just man, described as “perfect in his generations.” Though not without human weakness, he faithfully walked with God, setting him apart in an evil age – Genesis 6:9

Because Noah walked with God and responded in obedience, the Lord instructed him to build an ark — a vessel of mercy amid judgment. Through Noah and his offspring, a second chance was granted to humanity and to the living creatures of the earth.

The Beginning of a Second Chance

When the flood subsided, Noah and his family stepped out onto a cleansed earth. God then blessed them with words that strongly echoed His blessing to Adam:

Blessing to Adam:
“Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over… every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:28

Blessing to Noah:
“So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea.
They are given into your hand.’”

Genesis 9:1-2 (NKJV)

In this sense, Noah became the beginning of a second chance for humankind. The flood had wiped away the external corruption, and humanity was given a fresh start.

The Need for a Saviour Remained

Yet, even with this second chance, the human heart remained fallen. The Lord Himself declared:

“I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth.”
Genesis 8:21

Soon, sin re-emerged. Ham’s disrespect of Noah (Genesis 9:20-25), the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18–19), and countless other accounts reveal that the root of sin was still alive. The original curse from Adam’s disobedience had not been erased.

Thus, humanity’s greatest need remained: a Redeemer who could not merely cleanse the earth, but cleanse the human heart.

Jesus Christ: The Last Adam Offering Eternal Second Chances

God’s mercy did not end with Noah. His plan of redemption continued through Noah’s line -through Shem, Abraham, David, and ultimately, Jesus Christ, the Second Adam.

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”
1 Corinthians 15:22

1 Corinthians 15:45 (NKJV):
“And so it is written, ‘The first man Adam became a living being.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”

“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.”
Romans 5:19

Jesus came to offer not just another earthly second chance, but eternal life and restored fellowship with God – a place even better than Eden. His sacrifice demonstrates how far God’s love reaches: He did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us all (Romans 8:32).

Accept the Greatest Second Chance

Dear brethren, what does this say to us today?

God’s mercy has always pursued humanity. Again and again, He has overlooked our transgressions, not because He is indifferent, but because He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).

The cross of Christ is the ultimate expression of this love:

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

Today, the greatest second chance is being offered to you — not just life on this earth, but eternal life with God.

Will you honour His love by accepting it? Do not harden your heart. Receive this gift of grace, and let His love transform you from the inside out.
